Angela is a former higher education administrator who has spent her life active in her community and working to help those in need. After serving in the Virginia public school system as a teacher and administrator, she joined DHS/FEMA as an External Affairs and Intergovernmental Affairs Officer and national trainer, where she helped communities across the country rebuild after natural disasters.

Community Work

Throughout her life Angela’s been exceptionally active in the community. She worked at the YWCA Battered Women’s Shelter, created and led events for community agencies, and directed youth sports, arts, and music programs across Virginia. She also served as the President of the PTA and a member of the PTA Council. She currently serves on the Albemarle County Department of Social Services Advisory Board, the Agricultural and Forestal Districts Advisory Board, and the Public Recreational Facilities Authority.


Angela received a bachelor’s degree in Outdoor Recreational Management and Education from Northern Michigan University and a Master of Education from William and Mary. She is also a graduate of the Sorensen Institute for Political Leadership at UVA, the United States Institute of Peace, and the Emergency Management Institute.


Angela’s family has a proud military history. Two of her children currently serve as officers and pilots in the United States Air Force, and her husband is a veteran. Angela and her husband of 38 years, Nick, raised their five children in Virginia.
